Sometimes we just need to uncomplicate devotions with our kids. Take something they are already enjoying, connect it to Scripture with a brief chat, and let God’s Word soak in naturally and simply. It doesn’t need to be complicated.

Over the weekend, my kids requested me to play a certain song over and over while they belted it out and danced around the house. (Let’s be honest: I totally joined them in the belting & dancing.)
The chorus of the song brings to mind two Scriptures. It says: “Though the mountains may be thrown into the sea” which could be from Psalm 46 and “I can hear my Father singing over me” similar to Zephaniah 3. So on Monday morning I made a quick printable sheet of the song lyrics, so my older two could read along, plus the two Scriptures I wanted to highlight.
Before school on Monday, we listened to the song twice . . . which is always a good way to start the day: music on loud and a chance for Mom to have a worship moment. Then I shared a simple chat about how the words of the song are actually connected back to Scripture. And how God’s Word connects to their life right now. We finished up by listening to the song one more time, of course.
Though the mountains may be moved into the sea
Though the ground beneath might crumble and give way
I can hear my Father singing over me
“It’s gonna be okay, it’s gonna be okay”
Here is a free printable of our song devotional. Or take this concept and create your own simple devotional with a song or a book or a show or a game your kids are currently loving. The simple possibilities are endless!
I hope this is encouraging and helpful to you! I’m guessing–like me–your heart’s desire is to share Jesus with your children, so let’s uncomplicate it.
