You’re probably wondering why there is a photo of my socks to start off this post. It’s a bit silly but significant to me. The sock on the left I purchased back in 2010 before my last missions trip to El Salvador. I have two pairs of socks remaining from that pack. (I guess I’m not a hard-sock-wearer!) The sock on the right is from a new set I just bought for my next adventure: Kenya!
That’s right! I’m traveling to Kenya on January 29. After traveling often for missions in my teens and early twenties, I’ve been on a ten-year hiatus. Very busy at home and, even though I desired to go serve, the time was never quite right to travel abroad for missions. But this year! It’s time again. And I’m so excited.

I’m going to Kenya for ten days with a group of fourteen from my church to visit a safe haven home for potential sex trafficking victims. We are serving with Remember Nhu, a ministry focused on sex trafficking prevention. They currently have 109 homes in 16 countries, where over 1,650 children are currently protected from being sold. To date, and including past graduates, they have prevented over 2,200 children from entering sex slavery. (information copied from their website)
We believe the innocence of childhood is an inalienable right. Once lost, it can never be restored. Our children come to us before they are exposed to the horrors of the sex trade and mature into the happy, healthy young adults they were intended to be.

I’m most excited to meet my little friend, Alya (name changed for protection)–the sweet girl our family has supported for over three years. But I’m also excited to experience the culture and people of Africa. It’s a brand new continent for me.
You can follow along on Instagram and Facebook. I hope to post daily about our experiences and adventures!
All Glory to God–this is my prayer and hope.

Cannot wait to hear how God met you in Kenya. So excited for you to be on this amazing journey.
You’re the best, Mary!
